TW Steel 10th anniversary – New Canteen Collection

Classic Oversized Design Enjoys Contemporary New Look

TW Steel, in celebrating its 10th anniversary of being ‘Big in Oversized Watches, has unveiled a bold new Canteen Collection to captivate consumers looking to make a style statement with the brand’s stand-out design.

The revised and reinvigorated collection, featuring 45mm and 50mm case sizes, simply takes the Canteen style to another level having been the very platform on which ‘The Watch in Steel’ has been built since its founding in Amsterdam in 2005 with a four-model offering.

A major feature introduced for the new-look collection is the presentation of each design in a 3-Hand, Chrono and Automatic movement edition. This wider variety in movement ensures there is an execution to meet all tastes with TW Steel going down new roads to introduce this strategy.

All models utilize a high precision movement. For a more sporty look, the new Canteen leather strap editions feature a big caliber chrono movement with two chrono eyes with a sapphire layer on the crystals.

Another notable highlight is the use of vintage leather for the straps on the new Canteen models, something which also differentiates it substantially from existing Canteen models. With a more antique and aged look, they stand out while the thicker leather also comes with an appealing bold stitching.

Additional features for the leather strap editions come in the form of subtle yet equally distinguished design elements. Each 3-Hand version features a brushed steel case and bezel while the Chrono versions sport a brushed steel case along with a hammered steel bezel. The Automatic editions also have a brushed steel case and hammered bezel along with an elegant steel piece situated on the leather strap by the casing.

The expanded bracelet offerings in the restyled Canteen Collection are a major attraction. Of particular distinction are the new 2-tone timepieces being introduced, very much on-trend with current tastes but equally timeless in their overall look.

The new steel bracelet introductions are presented in a wide variety of looks including brushed steel, PVD rose gold plating and PVD yellow gold plating – and in the case of the 2-tone editions, a combination of the steel and PVD plated offerings.

As with the leather strap editions, each Canteen bracelet model is distinctive with the 3-Hand executions incorporating a shiny bezel with shiny mid-pieces on the bracelet. The Chrono editions sport a tachymeter on the bezel while showcasing a brushed steel bracelet. Finally, the Automatic timepieces have a hammered bezel and hammered mid-pieces on the bracelet for a matching look.

“Personally, I take a great degree of satisfaction that ten years on from the introduction of our first Canteen Collection, there’s still room to develop the range as we’ve done with the 2015 models,” enthused TW Steel co-founder and Chief Design Officer Ton Cobelens.

He continued; “Canteen has showed its staying power in the market and we know how much people love their pieces. Re-styling isn’t done for the sake of it; it’s only done to improve the design esthetically or technically. We’ve kept the DNA of these models to satisfy the consumer but we’ve obviously enhanced their appeal with the new adaptions and style improvements. It’s exciting to see such growth in the Canteen range, with the new collection taking us to around 200 designs. It’s been a substantial task but I’ve taken great delight in it knowing the enduring legacy of this design and its integral role in the success, both past, present and future, of TW Steel.”

While BASELWORLD sees the introduction of the first wave of the new Canteen models, the range will continue to be expanded as the year progresses ensuring the restyled timepieces keep a fresh and vibrant appeal while celebrating the very success of the brand’s flagship design.

TW Steel Launches Mitchell Niemeyer Canteen Bracelet

01_Mitchell_Niemeyer_TW313_2014TW Steel’s collaboration with Dutch DJ sensation and Brand Ambassador Mitchell Niemeyer has culminated with the launch of the 26-year-old’s very own oversized timepiece.

The Mitchell Niemeyer Special Edition (TW313 -£425) is the very first Canteen Bracelet model sized at 45mm in the bold range from ‘The Watch in Steel’.  This stunning model truly reflects the energy and passion Amsterdam-born Mitchell brings to his music, where his style fuses ‘House’ and ‘Electro’ and has been enjoyed by Electronic Dance Music fans around the world.

Unique to the piece is the exclusive dial, which mirrors Mitchell’s favorite tattoo design featuring prominent stars.  These have been subtly incorporated into the dial, which also stands out courtesy of titanium colored horizontal stripes.  Distinctive orange and white hands and markers add a pop of color to the design, the orange also reflecting Niemeyer’s Dutch DNA, one shared with the brand ‘Big in Oversized Watches’.

A stylish sandblasted PVD dark titanium coated steel case houses a state-of-the-art Chronograph Big Caliber Miyota 6S20 movement.  The bezel on Mitchell’s edition features a PVD black coated shine finish with the mid-pieces on the bracelet matching.  The steel bracelet, which features a revised link design, incorporates a sandblasted PVD dark titanium coating.  The model is also 10 ATM water resistant.

“I’m blown away by the detail in my Special Edition,” stated Niemeyer as he enjoys a packed summer of events including the likes of DJ’ing at Dance Valley and Totally Summer.  “The use of the stars from my tattoos on the dial makes it extremely personal to me but it’s also an appealing part of the design.  I hope other people will share my love and appreciation of it.  I’ll be proudly sporting it at gigs around the world that’s for sure.”

“This watch was a lot of fun to design because of the close relationship we enjoy with Mitchell,” reflected TW Steel CEO and co-owner, Jordy Cobelens.  “We’ve long been fans of Mitchell’s talent and we signed him to Steel Entertainment Group, TW Steel’s official entertainment company.  As a brand ambassador he’s been fantastic, doing sets around the world and modeling his various TW Steel watches from Los Angeles to Hong Kong, from Las Vegas to Ibiza.  I’m delighted that he now has his own Special Edition.  It’s a real reflection of who he is and his talent and ambition.”

Mitchell’s new-look ‘This Is My Time’ campaign for TW Steel will support the promotion and launch of his Canteen Bracelet Special Edition.  Niemeyer’s promotional images were captured by renowned fashion and music photographer, Rahi Rezvani, the Amsterdam-based artist having also shot TW Steel’s campaigns for its new Slim Line collection and brand ambassadors Kelly Rowland and David Coulthard.

Jack Clarke and   Crabbie’s Racing claim sensational podium in BTCC finale

Crabbie’s Racing   driver Jack Clarke claimed a dramatic podium and a further two points-scoring   positions in the 2014 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season   finale at Brands Hatch last weekend (11/12 October).

Britain’s premier motor racing series retuned to Brands Hatch, the scene of   Clarke’s tin-top debut at the start of the season back in March. This time,   the touring car series was to use the iconic Grand Prix layout, which is a   favourite amongst drivers and spectators alike and where he has tasted   significant previous success, including victory in the FIA Formula Two   Championship in 2011.

On Saturday, free practice saw damp and wet Autumnal conditions, which made   it difficult for Clarke and the team to set-up the Crabbie’s-backed Ford Focus   ST. The first session was held on a damp but drying track, while the second   session was dry for the majority before rain descended on the Kent circuit.   The 26-year-old hovered around the top 20 as he struggled with temperamental   brakes on the Motorbase Performance-run Focus.

For qualifying, the Effingham-based driver had the car dialed in to his   liking, and as the track dried he was able to push on for a good result at   the former Formula One venue. A late red flag whilst he was on his quickest   lap left Clarke just 20th on the timesheets – not a true representation of   his pace. Naturally he was disappointed, but ever the professional he lifted   his head and looked towards a strong race day.

Overnight rain added an extra ingredient into the mix for the first race of   the day at the Fawkham venue. As the lights went out, the first corner saw a   multi-car incident on the damp track. Clarke carefully threaded his way   through the carnage, making it out onto the other side of the first lap. With   tracking damage, which created heavy understeer, the Surrey driver initially   struggled, but as the race developed he drove around the problem to take 15th   at the chequered flag.

The second race of the day was to be a stop-start affair with two safety car   periods.  Jack enjoyed many a battle throughout the race on the cusp of   the top ten. As the tyres on the Ford came into their own, Jack was able to   take 11th and highest-placed Focus as the flag dropped. A penalty for Jason   Plato elevated the BTCC rookie into tenth and pole position for the final   race of the day after the reverse grid draw.

Clarke made a good start but couldn’t quite hold off the fast-starting   rear-wheel-drive car of Nick Foster alongside him on the grid.  However,   a safety car period backed Foster into Clarke, enabling the Crabbie’s driver   to hustle the BMW driver on the re-start. Once the safety car pulled in, the   pressure got to Foster as he drifted wide at Graham Hill Bend allowing Jack   to take a tighter line on the exit to snatch the lead.

Clarke began to charge through the mist as he gunned for glory, claiming a   bonus championship point for leading the race.  Jack’s BTCC education   was to be put to practice at the end-of-year test as he had 2012 BTCC   Champion Gordon Shedden hot on his heels. He managed to hold him off for a   brief period but the former title-winner found a way past at Dingle Dell in   the closing stages of the race.

The Grand Prix venue was more a lake than a circuit as Clarke carefully   tiptoed his way through the spray, counting down the laps until the race end.   As the chequered flag dropped, Jack emerged down the home straight in a fine   second place and the highest-placed Independent driver after a hard-fought   final encounter of the 2014 season.

What made his result even more impressive is that Jack was one of only 14   drivers to lead a lap throughout the campaign and the only rookie this season   to clinch a podium finish.

Jack reflected on his success at Brands Hatch and his first year in the BTCC:

“It was a great feeling to bring the car to the front of the grid, and line   up on pole for the final race of the season. I had to make the most of the   position as the car was great, I felt confident and we just hit our marks   every time. I think we were more consistent than the guys behind us. Gordon   [Shedden] was on fire and we couldn’t catch him so second place is the best   we could have come away with.

“I am over the moon to end our rookie year with second. It’s just awesome! It   is great to go into the off-season with this result as we look to gain   further support for next year’s campaign. We saved the best ‘til last!

“The season as a whole has been one big learning curve with a great result at   the end. I didn’t appreciate the challenge to begin with but I took it step   by step and worked at all the variables to improve as a driver. The team   [Motorbase Performance] have been fantastic, as they helped me develop into a   touring car driver this season. You couldn’t script the story for our season   this year and for Crabbie’s Racing to have some silverware at the end of the   year is the icing on the cake.”

It’s such a comfortable fit and I think, as a highly desirable accessory, it will compliment a wide variety of looks and outfits.” “Our goal is always to create signature timepieces that perfectly reflect the appeal of our brand ambassadors,” stated TW Steel CEO, Jordy Cobelens. “Kelly is fashion-forward in her thinking so we’ve designed a piece based on her inputs that can be paired with multiple styles. This watch has an allure that I know will be very attractive to fans of both Kelly and the TW Steel brand.” Kelly’s new-look ‘This Is My Time’ campaign for TW Steel will support the launch of her Canteen Bracelet Special Edition. TW Steel and partner Daytona Motorsport support the Henry Surtees Foundation

Daytona Motorsport shared the below highlights with us from last Tuesday’s Henry Surtees Foundation Team Challenge at Mercedes-Benz World.

The annual ‘Henry Surtees Foundation Brooklands Team Challenge’ took place at Mercedes-Benz World, Brooklands, earlier this week (1 July) where a maximum grid of 35 entries were all powered by the legendary Daytona TW Steel DMAX karts.

The charity kart event has fast become one of the ‘don’t miss’ highlights of a very special 2014 – a year that celebrates not only the 80th birthday of HSF founder John Surtees OBE, but also the 50th anniversary of his F1 World Championship title.

For the third successive year Daytona Motorsport had been chosen to supply its flagship fleet of TW Steel DMAX super-fast racing karts for the event, which gained fantastic support from a host of star names from the world of motorsport, business and entertainment again this year. Those taking part on Tuesday included BBC One’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional Brendan Cole and star of chart-topping band Boyzone, Shane Lynch. Sky Sports F1 were in attendance to capture all the action as anchor Simon Lazenby took to the track, “It’s great fun out there – I absolutely loved it,” he said.

Competing from the world of motorsport were the likes of Sam Bird, Alexander Sims, Lucas di Grassi, Marc Hynes, Darren Turner, Tom Ingram, Oliver Rowland, Jake Dennis, Ben Barnicoat and Rick Parfitt Jnr to name but a few.

“It was really good fun,” said 2013 GP2 runner-up Sam Bird. “It’s all for a good cause and the racing was great so what’s not to like!”

The hugely popular Dunlop BTCC also entered its own team featuring Rob Collard, Rob Austin, Daniel Welch and Hunter Abbott. Collard was mightily impressed with the event and the Daytona TW Steel DMAX karts in particular.

“I really enjoyed taking part in the HSF Brooklands challenge,” beamed the multiple BTCC race winner. “The Daytona DMAX karts were fantastic fun; fast and really responsive – I’d forgotten just how entertaining karting is. There were a lot of top drivers there though so of course the competitive nature of the field came to the fore, but overall it was just great fun and an honour to be a part of.”

The Ginetta entry won the event ahead of Titan Motorsport. Dunlop BTCC had led at the halfway stage but eventually finished seventh ahead of Daytona Motorsport’s promotional partner, TW Steel. Other entries included Mercedes AMG F1, Kartforce, Racing Steps Foundation, Motorsport Magazine, EFG, Toshiba, Land Securities, Blick Rothenberg, Carlin Motorsport, Ginetta, Quantel Bifold Racing, Goodwood, Vauxhall, KSS Air Ambulance and the Metropolitan Police!

During the race programme interval John Surtees OBE was reunited with his 1964 F1 World Championship winning Ferrari 158, which led an exciting on-track display of iconic Team Surtees’ cars driven by Max Chilton, the latest and youngest British racing driver in F1, driving for Marussia; Sam Bird and Alexander Sims.

The two-hour endurance kart race was followed by a Champagne reception hosted by Steve Rider and Henry Hope-Frost.

Daytona Motorsport Director, Jim Graham, said: “Daytona Motorsport is always delighted to be asked to provide the TW Steel DMAX fleet and race management for this event. To learn that the event raised in excess of £60,000 makes all the hard work worthwhile.”

Thanks to Daytona Motorsport and the TW Steel Team; Jordy Cobelens, Stewart Bain, Will Buxton & Charlie Eastwood.
